Constance
CervoneIt's a simple philosophy that has taken Constance Cervone to the top of her profession: Living from the heart is what fulfills dreams.
That may sound a bit idealistic, especially for someone revered by her colleagues as a tough negotiator. But for Connie negotiation is an art, one she has mastered in over twenty-something years as a top-producing salesperson.
Connie was seasoned in sales as a classic "road warrior" — up & down countless times between the east coast and west, then back again, for weeks at a stretch. Home takes on a much deeper meaning when you only get to think of it from 30,000 feet, and after a few years Connie landed back in Boston and stayed.
Missing the nourishment that a diverse and richly talented community provides, Connie made Jamaica Plain her home. That was twenty-three years ago, not long after her career path turned toward real estate, first in Beacon Hill & Back Bay and then the South End. It was in these richly historic neighborhoods that Connie built her expertise in the sale of premium properties.
When she joined Coldwell Banker (previously Pleasant Realty) as a broker in 1989, her work bonded with her strong sense of community. Her attraction to real estate is rooted, Connie says, in her "awareness of the intimacy of home. It's integral to nearly every aspect of life — family, business or otherwise. That sense of place where I am who I am, independent and creative, often encountering kindred spirits here. And there's the beauty of architecture, a longtime love of mine."
Connie was immersed in art & architecture from a young age spending most childhood summers wth family in Italy, experiences that inspired her lifelong scholarly forays into the worlds of Literature, Poetry, Fine Art, Languages, Religion & Philosophy, and, of course, a consummate love of travel. Outgoing and passionate, Connie's friends are acquainted with a variety of personas — swimmer, boater, hiker, writer, chef, gardener, and photographer.
Former President of the Board of the Jamaica Plain Arts Council, Connie herself has exhibited her photographs at JP's annual Open Studios. She is also a leader in her church community, St. Ignatius in Chestnut Hill, where she was a member of the parish council and active in AIDS and Gay ministries. She has also been a familiar volunteer at Nazareth House in Jamaica Plain, a shelter for women and children living with AIDS. From these experiences, Connie says, "I've learned that charity does indeed begin at home. I've always wanted to go off to a foreign land, to give up everything to do service, but it has yet to happen. Local volunteer work has been extremely enriching."
Connie owns a home on Moss Hill with her wife and business partner, Janet Deegan, who is also a Realtor at Coldwell Banker. They live with the lovable Ruby — a spirited angora black and white kitty that interacts with the neighbors and wildlife of the many lush, green spaces of JP. They have found this shared connection of work and community enriches their lives and mirrors their collaborative approach with clients and colleagues. An extensive referral network has rewarded them each with many notable successes, including Connie's 7-year tenure as Broker of the Year in 1996, 1997, 1998, 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004.
Connie considers the way home and work are integrated in her life as a great
blessing. "The only challenging aspect is that sometimes it's hard to tell a
work day from a day off," says Connie. "It makes witnessing a sunrise and sunset
in the same day a notably spectacular occurrence for me. Fortunately, my work
provides a deeply meaningful reward that comes from the pivotal role I play
in helping others achieve a single dream — a step towards home."
