Selling or purchasing a home is not only a life decision but also
a business decision. For most of us, our real estate is the largest
asset we own. Not surprisingly the vast majority of property owners
possess the wisdom to entrust the purchase or sale of their property
to a professional — a real estate agent. In doing so they ensure
that their property will be bought or sold for the best price, with
the best terms, and close as smoothly as possible. In order for an
agent to accomplish this for the buyer or seller, that agent must
be a good and effective agent. Since not all agents are created
equal, how does one find and hire a good real estate agent?
There is a simple but foolproof criterion that will allow any buyer
or seller to choose judiciously with superlative results. Choose
a true professional — an agent whose business practices and comportment
exemplify professionalism and a commitment to excellence. Professionalism
should be manifest in everything about the agent, beginning with
integrity right down to the last details of dress and speech. If
the agent does not look the part, it is likely s/he cannot live
the part. A professional works for a firm that reflects the same
high standards that the agent does — integrity and a commitment
to excellence.
Equally important is the agents history of success, a history
that assures you that the agent can meet your highest expectations
and demonstrates competence with a substantial track record of assisting
buyers and sellers. An effective agent often has a large repeat
business.
A good agent has a strong, imaginative marketing plan evident in
quality marketing materials that contribute to successful sales.
Be sure that your agent is committed to being attentive to the process
from beginning to end. After the contract is signed and once an
offer has been accepted, it is vital that you have an agent who
will be vigilant and involved through to the closing.
Further essential aspects of very good agents are honesty, a thorough
knowledge of market conditions, enthusiasm and very importantly,
strong negotiating skills. A good agent is also a clear communicator,
generous with information and has concern for the smallest details.
A good agent is one that has an unmistakable commitment to working
for you, the client.
As a Buyer or a Seller, if you are uncompromising in selecting
your agent, you will find you have winning results every time you
buy or sell.
